VISUAL TRACKING
Here at Coco's Moo Music we provide puppets, instruments, light up props, balls, bubbles ( to name but a few), to encourage babies to strengthen their eye muscles by tracking objects.
Yes we have fun whilst doing it, but there is always a developmental reason as to why we offer certain activities and repeat them week after week.
WHAT IS VISUAL TRACKING??
💜 Visual tracking is a fine-motor skill that allows us to control where we place our eye gaze. As it develops, babies become increasingly better at accurately moving their eyes back and forth, up and down, diagonally, and in circular motions.
Babies can usually start to track with their eyes by 2-3 months.
💜Visual tracking is important because it allows children to follow a moving object, scan their environment for information, direct hand movements, and accurately shift their eye gaze from one thing to another.
💜This skill gives us the ability to do things like read without losing our place, write in a straight line, catch a ball, or search for someone in a crowd.
👁️ Areas of development that are related to visual tracking include:
✅ Visual Fixation – Ability to maintain a steady gaze on a target.
✅ Vestibular System – Sense of balance and motion that helps control eye movements.
✅ Attention Skills – Ability to sustain focus and concentrate on one thing.
✅ Midline Crossing – Ability to cross the imaginary line dividing the two sides of the body with the eyes.
BUBBLES are an excellent eye tracking activity at any age
